Enjoy some good old farmyard magic

You can get a taste of farm life right in the middle of suburbia at Grants Dairy.

Nestled in the heart of Norton Small Farms lies an unlikely gem – Grants Dairy.

Owned by Elandshaven residents Dalene and Wesley Grant, the dairy has been in existence for about 12 years.

In the middle of suburbia, it offers a unique “time out” for stressed families as it features a farmyard and play area for children, as well as a relaxing eatery, Plaasstoep Country Café, where parents can relax while their children enjoy the outdoors.

The dairy also has a farm-deli where cheese, milk, dairy products and other homemade goodies are on sale.

An interesting thing about the dairy is that although the main income comes from cow’s milk which is sourced from a farm in Heidelberg, the dairy also offers goat’s milk products.

The dairy supplies products to many restaurants.

The goats are special Saanen Dairy Goats.

The breed originated in Switzerland in the Saane Valley and the milk produced is generally only three to four per cent fat.

The Saanen is white in colour and they are sensitive to sunlight.

The goats are kept on the property and Abel Rakgoale looks after them and milks them.

The goat’s milk products are produced at the dairy.

The dairy is open to the public from 8am to 4pm, Tuesdays to Fridays, from 8am to 3pm on Saturdays and from 11am to 3pm on Sundays.

Birthday parties and school groups can also be hosted at the dairy, situated at 114 Jacoba Street, Norton Small Farms.
