Damaged power cable causes power outage

Power is expected to be restored to affected areas by noon - says metro

The metro would like to inform residents that they are aware of the power supply interruption that has affected parts of Germiston since yesterday (Monday).

“The interruption is due to a damaged 33KV cable that was drilled through by a contractor working in the Albemarle area,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

“Ekurhuleni technicians have been working tirelessly overnight to restore power, however, last night’s rain caused a delay to the restoration of power supply to the affected areas.”

Power is expected to be restored by noon today.

The affected areas are:

  • Dinwiddie;
  • Norton Small Farms;
  • Albemarle Extention 1 and 2;
  • All Extentions at Union Proper.

“The metro apologises for the inconvenience caused,” said Gadebe.
