Alleged shootout at Edenvale centre leaves man dead

A man has been killed after an alleged shootout between police and gunmen.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was killed this morning after an apparent shootout at a retail centre in Edenvale.

ER24 paramedics, along with another private service, arrived on the scene and found a light motor vehicle in the parking area surrounded by a heavy police presence.

“Upon inspection, paramedics found the man lying next to his vehicle,” said Russel Meiring, spokesman for ER24.

“Assessment showed that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and one to his abdomen and he showed no signs of life.

“Unfortunately nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.”

Meiring added that it is believed that there was a shootout between the police and an unknown number of gunmen.

“The exact details surrounding the shooting are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” he said.
