The event brought together representatives from several organisations including the Ekurhuleni Psychological Services, local homes for the elderly, home-based care centres, support groups and Sassa (South African Social Security Agency).

The event offered the staff of these organisations a chance to learn more about the disease and share their insight and knowledge with one another.

Debbie Beech from the Alzheimer’s Association SA opened the event with a talk on the disease describing the symptoms and treatment needed to deal with patients suffering from Alzheimer’s.

“Alzheimer’s has always been sided-lined as an illness, this is still happening today,” she said during her speech.
