More illegal taverns closed in Primrose

Police continued to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol in the area.

The Primrose police recently arrested five illegal tavern owners, aged between 34 and 51 years old.

The owners were arrested during a special crackdown operation held in the Makause and Marathon informal settlements.

“The operation saw officers patrolling the informal settlements on foot.

“Before entering each of the illegal taverns police would inspect the area to be sure that alcohol was being sold,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Thousands of litres of alcohol were seized by police during the arrests.

The suspects, who were detained at the Primrose Police Station, all paid admission of guilt fines and were released on a warning.
