Man beaten by community after alleged robbery

The Katlehong South police’s Crime Prevention Unit and detectives hunt for criminals in Katlehong.

A team from the Katlehong South Police Station arrested eight suspects in the area last Tuesday.

The team, made up of members of the Crime Prevention Unit and detectives, hunted for several criminals wanted on different charges.

Among the suspects was a 29-year-old man, who was arrested in the Thusong informal settlement for housebreaking with the intent to steal.

It is alleged that the man was caught by the community while still inside the house he allegedly planned to rob.

The accused was savagely assaulted by the mob before the police arrived on the scene.

He was taken to hospital under police guard.

Other charges included common assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, drinking liquor in public, business robbery, theft and possession of drugs, including, dagga and nyaope.

The suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for a number of different reasons.
