From scrubs to tiaras
Jessica Tovey is not only a speech therapist and audiologist but also a 2017 Miss South Africa semi-finalist.
The semi-finalists in the 2017 Miss South Africa competition have been announced, and Bertha Gxowa Hospital’s Jessica Tovey is excited to be one of them.
Jessica (23), from Randpark Ridge, is a speech therapist and audiologist at the hospital and effortlessly switches from her hospital scrubs to high-fashion.
She decided to pursue her chosen career after an accident left her brother with both hearing loss and physical disabilities.
“I wanted to do my part to change the perceptions towards those living with disabilities.
“As a speech therapist and audiologist I interact with people living with disabilities every day and I see the way that not only they react to it but how those around them react to disability” she said.
Jessica believes that progressing through the stages and becoming Miss SA is not a means to an end but rather a journey to continuous positive change.
“Miss SA is the epitome of a woman of soulful beauty who will influence the people of SA wherever she goes.
“I believe that I am ready to take on that role and advance the Miss SA brand.
“I would love to be an ambassador for not only our country but for the Germiston community and to take it to a global level,” she said.
To help Jessica make it to the finals of the pageant SMS 08 to 45791.
Each SMS costs R1.50.
