In an effort to thwart criminal activities in the Elsburg policing district, the Elsburg SAPS and Incity Security conducted an operation together, recently. Setting off at 8am, the main objective of the day was to disrupt criminal activities in the area. The officers travelled in convoy with their sirens blaring through Elspark, Wadeville, Elsburg and Mimosa Park. Stop-and-search operations were conducted where suspicious people and motor vehicles were searched.

Germiston was engulfed by another storm, last Monday night, which resulted in an avalanche of property damage. That was also the case for the Halgreen family, who were woken up by the same storm. “It was around 11pm when I was woken up by thunder, lightning and a slight drizzle,” said Arwen Halgreen. “My husband Allan also woke up and shortly after, the storm hit and things turned bad. We heard something pop and decided to go check outside, to try and find out what it was – only to find that our wall had collapsed.”

Two motorists were killed after six light motor vehicles were involved in a crash on the N3 highway in the early hours of December 4. The accident happened between the Leondale Road and Old Heidelberg Road off-ramps and the highway had to be closed to traffic in both directions. Two people sustained critical injuries and seven others escaped with minor injuries. All the injured were transported to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital for medical care.

The metro warned consumers in Dawnview of a planned water supply interruption on Friday, December 9, which would take effect from 7am until 4pm. The interruption was due to routine maintenance and repairs at the Hilltop Reservoir. Consumers were encouraged to store water sufficient to last them for the duration of the interruption.

Residents in the city are tired of seeing their refuse bags piling up on the streets. Refuse had not been collected for about two weeks and although residents had contacted the metro to find out what the problem was they were left with no satisfactory answers.
