Tip-off leads to arrest in Silumaview

Germiston Flying Squad find unlicensed firearm hidden in small carry bag in Katlehong.

Members of Germiston Flying Squad recently arrested a 22-year-old man in the Silumaview Section of Katlehong for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The arrest was made after officers received an anonymous tip-off from the community.

“Police arrived at the Silumaview house where they found the accused. They searched him and the home and found a firearm inside a small carry bag, along with five rounds of ammunition and gloves.

“Officers discovered that the firearm’s serial number had been filed away,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

The man was arrested.

An investigation has been launched to determine whether the firearm seized was used to commit any crimes in the area.

The man will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
