Last year (2016) was a successful year for the Girl Guides, with a number of new members joining the organisation.
Girl Guides SA is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that empowers girls and women to reach their fullest potential through a dynamic programme which teaches members how to become responsible citizens, as well as imparting important leadership, sustainability and humanity skills.
The Girl Guides objective is to nurture core manners, values and morals in young women which will assist them to become good community leaders.

Throughout last year the girls were kept busy with a number of different activities.
These included a PinkDrive initiative which educated Girl Guides about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, as well as giving them the opportunity to host fund-raising events to raise funds for breast cancer research.
A blood donor drive to increase blood donations was also organised by the Guides and Brownies.
This project was well received and supported by the community.
Many Guide camps and pack holidays were held during the year, and the girls also hosted a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, where they cooked their own food and provided entertainment for the parents who attended the event.
The Germburg Ranger Crew hosted a fantastic camp for Rangers from Gauteng, which included a Master Chef cook-off, and at which creative talents were allowed to run free, with girls making their own shopping bags and taking part in photography lessons and a competition.
Girls could earn “connect badges” through the year that encouraged them to connect with themselves, friends, the community and the world.
“We thank all the parents for their valuable contributions and for helping to make 2016 a memorable year for their children,” said Sue Vorster.
The First Lambton Teddies caters to girls aged from four to seven years old, while Brownies caters for girls from seven to 10 years old.
The First Germiston Guides caters for older girls from 10 to 15 years old; from 15 onwards girls will become Rangers.
