My first task – Brigadier Phumla Mdlankomo

She urged members of the public to come forward and assist the police in identifying crime and criminals in their neighbourhoods.

The new head of the Katlehong SAPS, Brigadier Phumla Mdlankomo, whose official duty commenced last Wednesday, March 1, has vowed to deal decisively with the on-going crime wave in Moleleki Extension 3.

Speaking to Kathorus MAIL in an exclusive interview about her main crime targets lined-up on her diary, Mdlankomo, said she is seriously concerned about what she described as a “disturbing and frightening” crime situation in Moleleki Extension 3, a suburb of Katlehong on the south east border with Vosloorus.

Brig Mdlankomo said the number of crimes reported around Moleleki Extension include murder and home burglaries, both of which, she said needs her immediate attention.

“I find it unacceptable that communities in this area have been forced to live in fear of gangs of marauding of lawless criminals who have become a law unto themselves,” she said.

Mdlankomo, once again appealed to the community of Katlehong, particularly in the Moleleki Extension 3 area, to come together and stand up against the surging crime wave in their areas. She unreservedly committed the Katlehong SAPS in working together with the communities to identify and eradicate crime in all areas of Katlehong.

Asked about the scourge of the drug nyaope which is destroying the lives of hundreds of young teenage men and women around Kathorus, Mdlankomo, pointed out that the police rely on information supplied to them by members of the community to fight crime.

She urged members of the public to come forward and assist the police in identifying crime and criminals in their neighbourhoods.

She promised that the police were working on ways to catch the “big fishes” in the illicit drug trade that is ravaging the youth in the country.
