Brigadier praises police officers
New station commander at Katlehong Police Station, Brig Phumla Mdlankomo, continues to inspire in her fight against crime in the township.
Mdlankomo invited the previous station commander, Brig Johan Rens, to a thanksgiving ceremony organised for the Crime Prevention Task Team on Wednesday, June 6, at Katlehong Wesleyan Church.
Mdlankomo said the purpose of inviting Rens was to ask him how he managed to fight crime so successfully during his era.
Mdlankomo said there are two tasks teams, A and B, that work well together.
“Those two teams always make sure there is visible policing, even during shift changes. We wanted to thank them especially for getting rid of the business robberies that were taking place in Katlehong,” said Mdlankomo.
Mdlankomo said the two teams have won the fight against that kind of crime, using few resources.
Rens said she can’t win the fight against crime if she works alone.
“You must take care of employees and make sure they are happy. Be a good parent to them and also be a good listener,” said Rens.
He said Mdlankomo must build a good working relationship with all the stakeholders, including CPF and community members.
“I can see you have done a very good job in creating a strong bond between the community and the police station,” Rens said.
He added that Mdlankomo must motivate everyone within the police station to give their 100 per cent in making the police station the best.
“The bottom line is that the community must feel safe if they see the police in uniform. And strengthen our trust between the police station and the community,” said Rens.
Mdlankomo reminded the police officers that the job is a calling and asked them to work together in the fight against crime.
Rens was given a present for attending the ceremony.
