Community grateful for woolly winter-warmers

Businesses continue to spread warmth this winter by collecting and making blankets for the less fortunate.

THE elderly from Jackson’s Drift Informal Settlement in Eikenhof were recently blessed with numerous boxes of blankets and scarves courtesy of Victoria’s Hair and the Shenique Wellness Centre, reports the Alberton Record.

The two businesses gave a total of 47 blankets and 46 scarves to the elderly in the settlement – with good cheer. Most of the blankets were handmade – plush and soft to provide the ultimate winter warmth – but many blankets were also bought.

Founder of the Boithuto Community Project, Louisah Rafoma, started the project in 2012 and sees approximately 160 children and many elderly in the settlement being fed daily. The monthly grocery parcels which are donated by the parents of Waterstone College, were also handed out to the families.
