The top five stories on www.germistoncitynews.co.za for the week, August 12 to 18, were:

1. Police auction to take place

Community members are invited to attend the police auction of items at the Germiston Police Station. The auction will take place on August 31, with viewing from 8am to 11am, in the police station’s big hall situated on the corner of Long and Spilsbury streets in the Germiston CBD.

2. Murder suspect found hiding in church

A 30-year-old man was recently found hiding in a church in Moleleki Extension One by the Katlehong police, after allegedly murdering his girlfriend. It is alleged that during an altercation the accused stabbed the 23-year-old woman in her upper body.

3. Update: Photos from the scene of the N3 pedestrian bridge collapse in Germiston

The N3 highway through the Geldenhuys Interchange was closed to traffic after a pedestrian bridge collapsed in the early hours of Women’s Day. Authorities worked throughout the day to clear the highway so that it could be reopened to traffic.

4. Fire teams deal with Interwaste fire quickly

A fire broke out in one of the facilities at the Interwaste Transfer Station in Industries East at about 5.30am last Saturday morning. While the cause of the fire is unknown, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) and the Interwaste fire response team managed the incident.

5. Family and hospital welcome triple blessing

It was triple the joy for Dominique Ribeiro and Nicolaos Raftopoulos recently when they were blessed with not one, but three beautiful babies. The couple welcomed Ariana (at 4.52pm) and Tiago and Stefano (both at 4.53pm) Raftopoulos to the world at the Life Roseacres Hospital. A thrilled Dominique said the babies, who were born at 31 weeks, are all doing well.
