The EMPD Specialised Services, comprising the Drug Enforcement Unit, the K9 Unit, the Equestrian Unit and the SWAT Unit, targeted several identified crime hotspots in Germiston, last week.
The units visited a number of areas throughout Germiston, with particular focus on the CBD, in an effort to ensure a safer environment for all.
“Suspected drug dens and taverns in and around which most crimes occur were raided,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.
“Six premises, five vehicles and 23 pedestrians were searched during the operation.”

The special operations commenced last Wednesday and officers arrested a 23-year-old foreign national who was found allegedly in possession of 30 packets of Kat and six packets of crystal meth with an estimated value of R8 000.
“Hard cash amounting to R2 520, believed to be proceeds from selling drugs was confiscated from the suspect.
“The suspect was detained at the Germiston Police Station,” said Kgasago.
The team conducted stop-and-searches and high visibility patrols, last Friday, between 6pm and midnight, throughout Germiston.
Taverns and pubs visited included, Wadeffin, Genesis and Eyipilini.
“At the intersection of F H Odendaal and President streets, in an open space next to the new metro building, dozens of people drinking in public were chased away and our officers stayed on to ensure that the law-breakers did not come back,” said Kgasago.
