It was a busy weekend for police officers from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster and EMPD, with the arrest of 197 suspects.
The arrests were made during several operations held from December 15 to 17, and included stop-and-searches, roadblocks and the raiding of illegal taverns.

The suspects were charged with a variety of crimes.
These included malicious damage to property, murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, armed robbery, robbery, theft, theft of motor vehicle, assault, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of suspected stolen property.
Among the other charges were fraud, shoplifting, crimen injuria, intimidation, reckless and negligence driving, drunk and disorderly conduct in a public place, possession of dagga, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
All arrested suspects appeared in the Germiston, Vosloorus and Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Courts, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
The cluster’s festive season operations will continue.
