Congratulatory messages have been streaming in for the class of 2017.
Speaker of the council, Patricia Khumalo was one of the recent members of the metro to send out laudatory messages to the matric learners.
Khumalo emphasised the importance of education in building a better economy for the country.
She congratulated the junior city councillors on the success of their results with a special mention of 12 members who collectively obtained 50 distinctions, namely Violanta Odendal and Tyeisha Burn who both achieved eight distinctions; Melandre van Lill (outgoing deputy mayor) who achieved six distinctions; Sakhile Nkosi, Casey Jean Hutton and Tumelo Mashego (outgoing junior chief whip) who all achieved four distinctions respectively; Celcio Moloi (outgoing chairperson of chairpersons), Sikhanyisiwe Pondwa (outgoing junior speaker), Isha Zwane and Mxolisi Mnisi who all achieved three distinctions respectively, as well as Cecile Matabaro and Somila Joka who both achieved two distinctions.
“The City of Ekurhuleni is proud to be the breeding and grooming ground of young intellect and to refine young minds so they can propel to greater heights,” said Sphelele Nxele, the spokesperson from the Office of the speaker.
In closing he quoted the late, former president Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” and wished all the matriculants well for their future endeavours.
