Drug dealer arrested

A 22-year-old dagga and nyaope street peddler was arrested just before midday in Vosloorus on January 17.

Members of the community alerted officers of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD) Public Order Policing (POP) unit about a man who was relaxing under a tree along MC Botha Drive selling dagga and nyaope to the public.

Soon after 11am last Wednesday, the POP unit members pounced on the suspect who was found next to Sotho Hostel with several packets of dagga and nyaope.

Further investigations prompted the officers to proceed to the suspect’s residence whereupon five refuse bags were found filled with dagga. From his residence, the suspect led the police to a room in Sotho Hostel where 41 packets of nyaope were uncovered.

The 22-year-old male suspect was detained at Vosloorus police station and charged with possession and dealing of dagga and nyaope. He is expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.
