The hot topic of conversation on the Germiston City News Facebook page for the week, January 20 to 26 was:

Non-smokers rewarded with 6 days leave by Japanese company

This came after an employee complained about the time smokers waste on smoke breaks while non-smokers work. The initiative is known as “Sumokyu” which is a combination of the word “smoke” and a Japanese word for “break”.

You said:

Morné Geldenhuys, “Well I vape and I’m being treated like a smoker, even though I can vape at my desk and it’s completely safe for all those around me. So I call it unfair, I’m forced to use the smoking area and that is a health concern to me.”

Andy Jooste, “I smoke, but if that was the case here I would stop smoking. I want the extra leave days.”

Edith Hodder, “This is very unfair to smokers.”

Claire Jean Erasmus, “I think it is fair, yes.”
