Dancu reminds residents black bags will no longer be collected

The Dancu Residents Association reminds residents that the metro will no longer collect rubbish left on the pavement in refuse bags and encourages them to collect their metro wheelie bins.

The Dancu Residents Association, which caters to residents from Dinwiddie, Albemarle (east of the N3 highway), Norton Small Farms (east of the N3 highway), Castleview and Union (east of the N3 highway), is once again urging community members to collect their municipal wheelie bins.

“After many attempts to advise community members to make use of metro wheelie bins, there still seems to be many residents who are not adhering to our calls,” said Charleen Kirby on behalf of Dancu.

This is despite residents being advised on numerous occasions that refuse bags will no longer be collected by the metro’s refuse collection personnel.

“The metro only empties their wheelie bins, they do not take any bags whatsoever, even if they are placed next to the bin,” said Kirby.

Residents have always been charged for refuse collection, with the wheelie bin system merely being the new way of the metro collecting rubbish.

Therefore, the community is urged to go and collect their wheelie bins from the Germiston Waste Department on the corner of Ostend and Jack Pienaar Streets.

The depot is open from 7am to 4pm from Mondays to Fridays.

Residents are reminded to take a copy of their identity document, as well as a recent water and lights account with them.

Renters will need a copy of the property owners’ identity document in addition to the abovementioned documents.

“Dumping refuse bags, which includes household rubbish, as well as garden rubble in the fields only makes our area look terrible.

“In addition, this rubbish is contributing to the huge rodent problem in the area by providing them with a breeding and eating place.

“As the residents’ association for the area, we are appealing to all community members to please not dump any bags and to take pride in our area,” said Kirby.

Dancu is encouraging the community to keep their neighbourhoods hygienic and clean.
