Become part of the solution – CPF

The LKCPF is urging community members to join the CPF.

CPFs were established to involve all local stakeholders and key organisations in local policing.

They meet regularly with the officers in charge of the local police station, and discuss problems and solutions to crime in their area.

Out of this the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF (LKCPF) was established.

Under the LKCPF banner, residents work to create a community synergy to assist and add value to the fight against crime.

“It must be stressed that not only is LKCPF involved in adding value to the fight against crime, but all the sectors of the Germiston policing area, from Sector One to Sector Five, and CPFs throughout the country,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairperson of the LKCPF.

“LKCPF has a mandate for community policing to be successful. It is important for each and every individual in the community to realise that they have a moral obligation to assist and support the SAPS in the fight against crime, as well as other forms of social disorder,” said Pienaar.

“We have built an effective radio network and put in place social media platforms to assist in communicating all crime activities.

“These structures can greatly minimise response and reaction times of members connected to these networks, and with the support and involvement of the community, the police will be in a position to meet the safety and security needs not only in our community but throughout the country.”

Pienaar said that community organisations and development workers have to cooperate with CPFs in order to mobilise community support in the fight against crime. By doing so, they will help to build constructive relationships to tackle the various social issues that are intertwined with the problems of crime and violence that affect the whole community.

“Crime fighting starts with a proper and effective intelligence network, and it is also here where individuals can play a major part by reporting any suspicious or criminal activities.

“If you feel that you are not comfortable speaking to SAPS officers, this can also be done by making contact with your CPF steering structures that will channel it to the various investigating sections,” Pienaar added.

The LKCPF urges community members to join the CPF and become involved.

You do not have to become a patroller if you join the CPF, as there are many areas you can get involved in.

“Let’s stop sitting on the sidelines complaining,” Pienaar said. “Together we can make a difference.

“Make sure that all crime gets reported, big or small. If anything is stolen from your property, person or elsewhere, report it, as this will enable us to establish trends.

“The phrase ‘nothing will come from reporting it’ is unacceptable.

“That is why the CPF structures are in place – to follow up on issues.”

The LKCPF will be holding their next monthly meeting at the Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston hall on February 8 at 7pm.

The community is welcome to come along and meet the CPF’s patrollers and find out how to get involved.
