The three most dangerous snakes on the East Rand

More than 80 per cent of all snakebites in South Africa occur between January and April and in the early evening, with people accidentally stepping on snakes. Compared to other parts of the country, the Gauteng Highveld has only a few dangerous snakes.
EMPD tackles another illegally occupied CBD building

The battle against illegally occupied buildings embarked on in the beginning of the year in the Germiston CBD is continuing relentlessly. The periodic special operations are aimed at identifying those responsible for ‘renting’ out these buildings (which are squalid) at a fee to people who are desperate for accommodation.
Man shot multiple times in hijacking attempt

A man sustained multiple gunshot wounds during an alleged attempt to hijack his vehicle in the Roodekop area recently. Netcare 911 responded to a call regarding a shooting in Klipspringer Avenue at around 11.30pm. Paramedics were the first to arrive on the scene and attended to the 26-year-old man who had been shot.
‘Illegal activities’ anger residents

Residents in Marguerite Avenue in Primrose are at their wits’ end over the alleged illegal goings-on at a house in the street. The many problems have been going on for a long time and residents have received no help from the metro or the police.
Uber driver victim of hijacking and attempted murder

The Elsburg SAPS recently responded to a late night call detailing that an Uber driver had been stabbed and hijacked on Raven Street in Elspark. Const Erin Palmer rushed to the scene, and upon arrival a police van was already on the scene with officers assisting the victim.
