Tip-off leads to illegal firearms bust

Two men were arrested by the Katlehong police for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The police arrested two men for the alleged possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong recently.

The men, aged 24 and 38 respectively, were arrested after the police received information from the community.

“It was reported to officers that the men were in the possession of firearms,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

“The men were found sitting inside an Isuzu bakkie.”

Police searched the occupants and the vehicle and found 9mm pistols and ammunition.

The men were arrested after they failed to provide the officers with licences for the firearms.

“The firearms were sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used to commit any crimes,” said Ndobe.
