Cluster arrests 100 suspects through joint operations

The Ekurhuleni West Cluster, which is made up of 12 police stations, arrested 100 suspects through a series of different operations.

During several police operations, held over the weekend of February 23 to 25, officers from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster stations arrested 100 suspects.

“The suspects were arrested for various offences during the joint operations conducted by members of the cluster’s Crime Prevention Units, with help from the EMPD and detectives from the various stations,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, on behalf of the cluster.

Charges included assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence, fraud, theft, murder, attempted murder, robbery, intimidation, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, malicious damage to property and using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Other charges were interference with police duties, driving under the influence of alcohol, selling liquor without a licence, shoplifting, warrant of arrest, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs (both dagga and nyaope).

The suspects appeared in the Germiston, Vosloorus or Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Courts, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.

The cluster plans to host similar operations in the future.
