Dangerous weapons confiscated from local tavern

Officers from the Germiston Police Station embarked on a patrol of a number of local taverns recently. At one of the taverns, police discovered and confiscated a number of dangerous weapons.

Police warn children to be alert

With the school holidays approaching fast, the Primrose police are appealing to parents and children to be extra vigilant of their surroundings and be aware when finding weekend jobs. “We have received reports that children looking for holiday work have been approached by suspects in several different vehicles. The suspects offer the children money to help them offload goods but instead rob them of their cellphones, money and other belongings,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Tip-off leads to dagga bust

After receiving a tip-off from the community last Thursday, officers from the Germiston Police Station raced to a local informal settlement. “We were alerted to the fact that a 35-year-old man was selling dagga from his shack,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

Weather Watch – Severe thunderstorm a possibility for Gauteng

After a wet couple of the days in Germiston, the South African Weather Service warned residents last Monday to be on alert as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain could hit the province in the late afternoon heading into the evening. The service predicted that the wet weather would last the rest of the week and into the weekend, with temperatures staying in the mid-20s.

Heavy rains cause ‘sinkhole’ in Makause

The continuous heavy rain residents of Ekurhuleni experienced recently affected many communities in the metro, Makause informal settlement being one of them. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to a call to investigate a “sinkhole” in the area last Monday.
