Thirty nabbed in weekend operations

Katlehong police arrested 30 suspects through a series of operations over the weekend.

Officers from the Katlehong Crime Prevention Unit and detectives from the Katlehong Police Station were hard at work last weekend hosting a number of operations.

The operations, held between April 13 and 15, resulted in the arrest of 30 suspects.

The accused were arrested for various offences.

Charges included:

Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm: 8

Driving under the influence of alcohol: 3

Theft: 1

Possession of stolen property: 1

Shoplifting: 1

Possession of drugs: 16

The Katlehong SAPS’ acting station commander, Col Nomthandeki Mthembu, was very impressed with the weekend’s operations and commended the team for their efforts.

“Initiatives like this should continue in an effort to curb crime in the area.

“I further appeal to the communities of Katlehong to do their part in bringing the level of crime down, by joining their local CPF or community patrol,” she said.

Those interested in joining the Katlehong CPF can visit the Katlehong Police Station and speak to CPF chairperson Ashley Masina.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
