Officers from the Primrose Police Station recently arrested a 42-year-old man on charges of house robbery and theft of a motor vehicle, while the man’s accomplice remains at large.
The arrest was made after the owner of a Parker Street home, in Malvern East, reported the incident to police.
The man told officers when opening the case that he had been sleeping when he heard a bang from outside.
“He went to investigate the sound but when he couldn’t see anything he returned to bed,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
However, when he arrived in his bedroom he realised he was not alone as there were two men in the room.
“One of the men allegedly pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to keep quiet.
“The victim claimed that the men apologised to him stating they had believed the home’s owner was white or Indian, but since they were now inside the home, they were going to have to take something,” said Maome.

The robbers bound the man’s hands and feet with shoelaces before loading two cellphones, an internet router, shoes, a belt, a black bag, a pair of cycling pants and a watch into his BMW.
“The men allegedly promised the victim that they would abandon the vehicle and his house keys at an undisclosed location before driving off,” said Maome.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Cleveland area.

Police investigated the incident and were able to arrest one of the suspects who appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
Officers are still searching for the second suspect.
