Pyjamas and slippers for all the children of Epworth
The children of Epworth Children’s Village in Lambton received special gifts from the members of Germiston Wheelers Cycle Club.
For many of us there is nothing better than getting home in winter and climbing into a warm pair of pyjamas, but for the children of Epworth Children’s Village in Lambton, this was not a reality.
“After seeing a post on Facebook, Xanthe Schwark and I decided to start a drive to collect some warm pyjamas and extra goodies for the children of Epworth,” explained Jeanne Jacobs.
“When we initially started the collection, as a charity event for Germiston Wheelers Cycle Club, we were catering for 54 children, aged between two and 19 years old.
“However, this number soon increased to 71 children once we had committed and started planning.”

The pair enlisted the help of not only the Germiston Wheelers members but friends and family as well.
“We were thrilled to be able to collect something for every single child at the home,” she said.
Individual boxes, containing a new pair of pyjamas, a pair of slippers and a treat of some form, were packed for each child with no two being the same.
The boxes were then loaded onto a bakkie and with the help of the Germiston Wheelers members, Jeanne and Xanthe visited Epworth, last Saturday, to hand out the parcels.

“To make the visit extra special for the children, the club sponsored the hiring of cartoon and superhero costumes,” said Jeanne.
The children were thrilled with the visit and loved interacting with their visitors.
“A big thank you goes to our friends, families and the Germiston Wheelers members for helping us make the day the success it was,” said Jeanne.
