Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) members made Mandela Day a memorable one for the children of Thabo Tona Primary School in the Tsietsi informal settlement in Palm Ridge.
DEMS officials donated groceries and sporting attire to the school.
It was not the first time DEMS officials have visited the school.
During the launch of the DEMS winter awareness campaign in April, the department was offered the use of the premises to explain the campaign to the parents of the learners, as well as the rest of the neighbourhood.
The children from the netball and football teams were thrilled to be receiving new sports attire, including takkies for the girls and football boots for the boys.
