The metro has distanced itself from a bogus chainsaw motorised vehicles tender scam circulating and scamming people of their hard-earned money.
The culprits send possible victims an appointment letter bearing the metro’s logo, together with the fraudulently generated order number, for bidders to bid to supply chainsaws to the metro for 12 months.
The victims are thereafter given specific specs of the chainsaw motorised vehicle that is only available from one service provider and are requested to deposit a certain amount of money before delivering the goods.
This is a scam and the metro distances itself from it.
An investigation is currently underway to establish if there is any involvement of metro officials in this scam.
Entrepreneurs are encouraged to be aware of the unauthorised use of the metro’s name, email address, employee names and logos.

The fraudulent emails have some elements of similarity to the metro emails for example: name.surname@ekurhuleni-gov.org.
The difference is as follows:
• Scam: …@Ekurhuleni–gov.org
• Correct email: …@ekurhuleni.gov.za
To confirm if quotations or tenders are authentic contact details are available on the metro’s website at www.ekurhuleni.gov.za.
