Two martial arts champions now live under one roof as the Coxen family continues to make its mark.

This follows Jordin Coxen’s recent victory in the Titan Youth Championship under the Titan Bare Knuckle promotion. Jordin is following in the footsteps of his father, Pietie Coxen, a double champion in the same promotion who holds both the welterweight (79 kg) and middleweight (84 kg) titles.

The younger Coxen competed in a white-collar boxing match in Alberton on August 29, claiming the title on points after two rounds in the 55–60kg division.

Jordin explained that he was initially booked for a standard match without a title on the line. However, as fight day approached, the promotion decided to make it a championship bout. Despite being sick for two weeks prior, which kept him from training, the news thrilled him.

“I wanted to bring the title home, so I made sure to get as fit as possible for the match,” Jordin said, noting that he had promised his parents he would secure the championship.

“We now have two champions at home, which makes me proud. Now Elsburg has two real champions,” he added.

Because of his missed training, Jordin admitted the second round was a battle as fatigue set in.

“If we had a third round, I don’t know if I would have finished it. My hands started to feel like they didn’t want to move,” he recalled.

The young star holds a 6-2 boxing record and also competes in rugby and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

The Grade Seven learner at Laerskool Delville played for the Elandspark school rugby team, where he was recently named Man of the Match.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Jordin stays focused in the classroom.

“I am part of the prefect team at school, and my grades look good. My parents make sure I finish my homework right after training.”

While this is his first boxing belt, Jordin has already earned accolades in MMA.

“In MMA, I have won medals and competed at national competitions. This year, I competed at the MMA South African Nationals (MASA) and won a silver medal, even after injuring my foot leading into the finals.

I also competed in a promotion called Lights Out in Durban this past June, and we have a second competition coming up later this year.”

Reflecting on his journey, Jordin credits his success to discipline.

“I believe my success comes down to hard work and dedication. Even without training right before this fight, I remembered how hard I had worked for an opportunity like this, and I took it,” he said.

Jordin plans to keep training in both MMA and boxing under his father’s guidance at their gym, Thunder Box in Elsburg, while also aiming for academic and sporting recognition at his school’s upcoming prize-giving ceremony.
