Man nabbed in Elsburg for possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition

Tip-off leads to arrest and seizure of firearm and rounds of live ammunition.

Elsburg SAPS officers were recently on a routine patrol in Pienaar Street, when a woman alleged to have seen a man carrying a firearm and entering one of the residences in the same street.

The officers headed to the address in question, following the woman’s lead.

Upon their arrival, they found a man fitting the woman’s description and searched the premises.

“During the search, the officers allegedly found a silver and brown firearm with five rounds of live ammunition tucked into the suspect’s waistband,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

The 31-year-old man was asked to produce his firearm licence but failed to do so.

He was arrested and detained in Elsburg SAPS custody.

“The firearm and ammunition were confiscated.

“The suspect will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Phooko.
