Sweet fun at Fun Cake Competition

Many walked away winners at the Fun Cake Competition hosted by the South African Cake Decorators Guild, Germiston Branch.

The gloomy and rainy weather experienced last Saturday turned out to be the perfect addition to the hot tea and delicious cake combo being served at the Fun Cake Competition hosted by the SA Cake Decorators Guild, Germiston Branch.

Held at the AFM Primrose East Church, the competition had a decent turnout and boasted colourful baked goods which tasted as good as they looked.

First-time contestant, Makhosi Mashala, stepped into first place in the sugar paste topping category with her high-heel and lace cake.

While Monique Terblanche’s bear cake growled into first place in the single tier sponge cake category.

Leandrie Terblanche grabbed second place in the sugar paste topping category last weekend in the SA Cake Decorators Guild, Germiston Branch, Fun Cake Competition.

“We pride ourselves in ensuring that everything presented is edible.

“The whole idea is to get everyone involved, from those who do not know how to bake to those who are excellent bakers,” said Helen Pepperell, a member of the guild.

“Makhosi, who was a first-time contestant of this competition, won in a tough category.

“This will, hopefully, inspire her and other members to enter the next competition.

“We build friendships and companionship in the guild; it’s a great place to network.”

Refilwe Mashala took first place in the children’s (seven to nine years old) cupcake decorating category.

On behalf of the guild, Vicky van den Heever baked a Santa inspired cake together with Magriet van Tonder, which was donated to the church as a token of gratitude for having opened their doors and allowed the decorators to host events on their premises.
