Drunk driving is reportedly linked to a number of accidents during the festive season.
Five suspects were arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, recently, during several stop-and-search operations conducted by officers from the Primrose police and members of the EMPD.

“The accused, aged between 22 and 65 years, were arrested in different areas within our policing precinct.
“Each of the suspects was stopped by police who reported that they could barely walk or talk when asked to exit their vehicles.
“Alcohol could also be smelt by the officers,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

They were all taken to hospital for a blood test after which the accused were detained at the Primrose Police Station.
A number of suspects paid admission of guilt fines before being released while others remained in custody before appearing in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
