In a continued effort to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose, officers from the Primrose Police Station hosted an operation in the Makause informal settlement, last Saturday.

During the operation, three illegal taverns were closed down, three suspects aged between 26 and 35 were arrested and volumes of alcohol were confiscated.
The operation formed part of a prevention campaign that addressed other serious crimes such as house robberies and hijackings.
At each of the taverns, the owner was asked for a valid liquor licence and if they were unable to provide one they were arrested and charged with dealing in liquor without a licence and their establishment was closed.
“We warn the community of Primrose that selling liquor without a valid licence is illegal,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“We will continue to conduct similar operations week in and week out until we win the war against the illegal sale of alcohol and gender-based violence in the informal settlements.”
The suspects were taken to the Primrose Police Station where they were later released on a warning after paying an admission of guilt fine.
