Update: Power set to be restored by 5pm

Emergency shut down at main Germiston sub-station blamed for multi-suburb power outage.

Many suburbs in Germiston have been plagued by long term power outages over the past two days.

In a statement on their Facebook page the metro has claimed that the power failures have lead to an emergency shut down at the main Germiston sub-station.

No reason was given for the early power failures.

The areas affected by the outage include, but are not limited to:

  • Airport Park
  • Rand Airport
  • Denlee
  • Elandshaven
  • Parts of Lambton
  • Parkhill Gardens
  • Wadville
  • Tedstoneville
  • Germiston CBD
  • Elsburg

The metro estimates that power will be restored to the affected areas by 5pm today (Friday).

More updates to follow as information becomes available.
