RAF to the rescue

The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is offering assistance to the victims of the recent horrific vehicle accident on the N3 near the Vosloorus off-ramp on May 27.

The tragic car pile-up happened just after midday and claimed the lives of nine people. Several others were left injured and were rushed to the nearby Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, while others were rushed to nearby health facilities.

According to the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services media spokesperson, William Ntladi, it took the them over seven hours to clear the area and allow traffic to flow again.

RAF chief marketing officer Phumelela Dhlomo said: “This is another tragic accident to which our RAF Johannesburg team will provide the necessary support to the affected families, including 21 people who were injured. We once again urgently appeal to all road users to always remember that safety is of paramount importance when travelling.”

Dhlomo promised that RAF staff will engage with families of the deceased to facilitate funeral arrangements while providing advice about the RAF’s other services.

Following the burials, consultations will continue with the bereaved families to originate claims for loss of support for any dependents and qualifying heads of damages for the injured as stipulated in the RAF Act.

Family members who would like more information regarding the claims process and what they are eligible to claim for are asked to kindly contact the RAF’s regional office in Johannesburg on 0860 23 55 23 between 7.45am to 6pm from Monday to Friday. The offices are situated at Marble Towers, 29th floor, 212 Jeppe Street, Johannesburg.
