Man charged with several different offences

Police apprehended a man on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, hijacking and attempted hijacking.

While delivering parcels on Wednesday a Ram Hand to Hand Couriers driver noticed he was being followed.

He immediately called the police and officers from the Thokoza Police Station responded to the call.

“When police arrived on the scene they identified the vehicle,” said Const Sivenkosi Mtwa, on behalf of the Ekurhuleni North District.

“When the vehicle occupants saw the police one jumped out of the vehicle and disappeared.

“The other was arrested after the Ram driver identified him as one of the suspects following him.”

During a search of the suspect police found an unlicensed firearm and five rounds of live ammunition.

“The man was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, hijacking and attempted hijacking,” said Mtwa.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to see if it can be linked to other crimes in the Kathorus area.

The man will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
