Female entrepreneurs host sanitary drive
A group of entrepreneurs in Ekurhuleni hosted a sanitary towel drive at the Hawaii Lounge in Katlehong recently.
With the help of the Ekurhuleni Municipality, more than 200 000 sanitary towels to the value of R100 000 were collected and donated to different schools and organisations that were invited to be part of the ceremony.
During the second instalment of the drive, each school or organisation received more than 20 000 sanitary pads.

One of the entrepreneurs, the Katlehong-based Seipati Masango, said she believes the sanitary products will last each organisation the whole year.
Masango is a skincare brand manufacturer.
She said their focus is on learners from destitute backgrounds.
The chosen primary schools for the donation were Tamaho, Thulisa, De Bruine, Sekgutlong, Tshabalala, Zimele and Phumelela Comprehensive School. Although some schools did not attend the event, they too would receive their sanitary towels.
Young girls from Katlehong Methodist Church as well as the youth from different organisations in Katlehong, benefited from the kind gesture of the Ekurhuleni business community.

Masango said the donation was meant to give back to the community which supported “our businesses”, as well as “to keep a girl child at school”.
“Learners from disadvantaged background sometimes miss out on school during their menstruation cycle just because they have no one to buy them sanitary towels. We made it our responsibility as female-owned business people to keep a girl child at school,” said Masango.
