Red Cross appeals for donations to help shack fire victims

Donations of blankets, clothing, food and hygiene packs are desperately needed.

The Germiston branch of the South African Red Cross Society is appealing to the community to donate items for the people affected by a shack fire in Marathon informal settlement.

Barbara Jensen, the manager of Germiston Red Cross, said there are over 130 beneficiaries in need of assistance.

The society is appealing to the community for funds to purchase blankets or for donations of suitable blankets for distribution.

They would also be grateful for donations of clothing, non-perishable food and hygiene packs.

“The victims have lost all their worldly possessions.

“It is devastating,” said Barbara.
