Nkosi to represent SA at GGMUN in Thailand
GGMUN is where young leaders from various countries are given a platform to develop their leadership, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
Nkosinathi Nkosi (21) from Vosloorus has been granted the opportunity to represent South Africa at the annual Global Goals Model United Nations (GGMUN) event in Thailand on October 4 to 7.
Its aim is to engage young leaders from all over the world, and GGMUN provides a platform where everyone can share perspectives and opinions about a given topic.
Young people are given a topic where they are asked to discuss social issues and then provide solutions on how they can make the world a better place.
GGMUN gives an opportunity for young leaders to enhance their capabilities and encourage themselves to develop a network and improve their communication skills.
Nkosi, who is studying towards becoming an electronics engineer at the Vaal University of Technology, said this conference is exclusively designed for those who long to change the world.

“GGMUN encourages youth leaders who are ready to tackle world issues with their ideas and solutions to apply to this event. It welcomes youth from diverse backgrounds. This year GGMUN has eight forums, 12 hours total of meeting session, more than 900 delegates, seven meeting session, a prestigious diplomatic dinner and inspiring speakers. Each forum has two topics,” said Nkosi.
He said delegates will have to choose one forum to attend.
The 21-year-old said there are eight categories they select you for: Zero Hunger, No Poverty, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Climate Action.
He said he was selected to participate in the Clean Water and Sanitation category, under the topic Water Scarcity in Rural Areas.
“I am also selected to be a delegate for the Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) Three, which is going to be held in Bali, Indonesia, from November 13 to 16,” he said.
The dilemma though is that Nkosi is in need of funding to cover the costs of the conferences, including accommodation and flights.
