No cash, no problem at some license departments

The pilot project in this regard was the Kempton Park Licensing Centre

Three more licensing centres in Ekurhuleni will adopt a cash-free system from today (August 1).

“Disadvantages associated with handling and keeping of huge amounts of cash have prompted the Ekurhuleni metro to adopt a cash-free system in its licensing centres,” said EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“The pilot project in this regard was the Kempton Park Licensing Centre which went cash-free on April 1, 2019.”

Kgasago said the intention is to roll out the system to all the city’s licensing centres.

The new centres that will be cash-free zones are Wadewill, Alberton and Boksburg.

“Only bank cards such as debit and credit cards shall be accepted for payments,” Kgasago said.
