Update: Metro and Rand Water meet to discuss water supply

Metro and Rand Water urge residents in lower-lying areas to use water sparingly to help water restoration in high-lying areas.

Many residents are still without water today (Thursday).

The metro has claimed that local reservoirs are still being filled after a Rand Water supply line burst and this is the reason that water has not been restored to all areas.

“High-lying areas in Germiston, such as Sunnyridge, Dawnview, Sunnyrock, Solheim, Symhurst, and parts of Gerdview and Primrose are struggling to either recover or maintain a consistent water supply,” Rand Water said in a statement.

According to Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan the metro and Rand Water would be meeting to explore options on how to maintain a stable water feed to the Windsor Reservoir.

“Once again residents in low-lying areas are asked to use water sparingly until there is a stable water supply,” said Morgan.

Morgan could not give a turnaround time for full water restoration.

“I know everyone is frustrated but, unfortunately there is no set time for water restoration,” said Morgan.
