Twenty-nine years of art

Mohlabi is looking for a place where he can work at and showcase his skills.

Petrus Mohlabi (44) from Phola-Park, Thokoza, is a self-taught artist who started this venture at the age of 15 while still in school.

Mohlabi has made different types of artwork which include a gold mine, a train, windmill, ashtray and more.

“I wish to find a place which I could use to work at and create my artwork.

“This could lead me to hiring people and creating jobs in this economic state we are living in,” Mohlabi said.

Mohlabi said he is a handyman; he fixes electrical appliances, bicycles and also creates his artwork, which involves mechanics.

Out of all he does, his love is for creating art.

Mohlabi said: “It sometimes takes me up to three years to create something as I am unemployed, so I struggle with buying the materials I need to create a piece.

“However, when I do have a little to buy the material, it can take me up to a month or less.”

Mohlabi said he was born with this skill.

“Even prophets tell me that I am not supposed to be employed by anyone, but work for myself and create jobs using this skill which was given to me by God and my ancestors,” Mohlabi said.

Mohlabi sometimes gets customers and sells his artwork to them. On August 25, he sold a rondavel which he made.
