Senior citizens’ club pulls together
They’re a group of buoyant and joyful senior citizens, most of them retired professionals from a varied landscape of professions ranging from corporate, nursing, teaching, social service responsibilities to domestic skills.
This group of about 70 elderly women is known as the Spruitview Pull Together Senior Citizen Social Club. Members of the club meet weekly at the local Spuitview Multi-Purpose Recreation Facility where engage in discussions about a number of domestic and social issues, including their own health.
According to the club’s media liaison officer, Rose Buthelezi, the ladies are also involved in other activities which include aerobics, fun walks, sport and other domestic chores, such as knitting and sewing.

“Recently, some of our members took part in a regional sporting event in Pretoria where one of our members came in second place,” explained Buthelezi, who lamented the lack of male members in the group.
“We are inviting elderly men, especially those who are retired and sitting at home doing nothing, to come forward and join our club. We need men to join the club and participate in the variety of social and sporting events in which we are often invited to participate in,” she said.
Male pensioners in Kathorus who wish to join the Pull Together Senior Citizen Social Club can contact Rose Buthelezi on 073 150 3717.
