Gogo Dietsiso turns 101 years old
One of the oldest members of the community of Vosloorus, Gogo Rahab Dietsiso, turned 101 years old on August 23.
Gogo Dietsiso, who resides at the Vosloorus Old Age Home, had a special birthday celebration organised on November 3. The celebration was organised by Bambanani Ladies Fellowship, a women’s wing of the United Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa based in Vosloorus.
According to Reneilwe Malokoane, leader of Bambanani Ladies Fellowship, they were visiting the home on June 18 to donate some cosmetics when they heard that Gogo Dietsiso would be celebrating her 101st birthday.
“We made a promise to her that we were going to come back and celebrate her birthday with her. We didn’t manage to celebrate it on the exact date, but we are here today to celebrate this special day with her and other elderly people from the home,” said Malokoane.

Members of Bambanani Ladies Fellowship brought gifts and a big birthday cake with photos of Gogo Dietsiso printed on the cake. They also brought some cold drinks so that the birthday girl would share with other elderly citizens from the home.
Gogo Dietsiso thanked members of the Bambanani Ladies Fellowship for their kind gesture.
“It is not everyone who turns 101 years. Most people do not get to this age because they do not take good care of themselves and they use dangerous substances. If you live your life negligently, you will end up with different incurable diseases which could lead you to an early grave,” said Gogo Dietsiso.

Mirriam Mugizhi, a nursing sister at the home, said Gogo Dietsiso is one of the strictest people she has ever worked with.
“What I love the most about her is the fact that she loves everyone at the home and because of her good personality, she is also loved by everyone here,” said Mugizhi.
