Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre has 25th AGM
Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre (EMHTC) celebrated its 25th AGM in style at their premises in Maphanga Section, Katlehong, on November 8.
EMHTC is a place of healing which strives to reach individuals, families, groups, and communities in distress and to engage them in a holistic process of healing, recovery, and empowerment.
The event was graced by board members, some of the funders and, most importantly, the community of Maphanga Section.
There was also a special appearance by Aaron Lechuti, who is a motivational speaker and author.
The organisation also celebrated 25 years of existence and achievement. In celebrating this milestone, the executive director, Zodwa Mzondo, praised and thanked the employees of EMHTC and those who have been with the NGO since its inception in 1994, while they were still located in the old Natalspruit Hospital which then relocated to Vosloorus and was renamed Thelle Mogoarane Regional Hospital.
Delivering her speech to the fully packed hall, Mzondo said she has decided to align her speech with the theme of the day, Expertise, Sacrifice, Servanthood, Talents, and Skills that Promote Social Functioning of our Community and Society.

“The theme of today has made me single out one word – servanthood. As the executive director of this organisation, I have learnt in the past three years that if I don’t replace leadership with servanthood, I will never be able to master the seven Ts of a good leader, which are teachable, task-orientated, target-orientated, timeline-orientated, trust-orientated, team-orientated and taking instruction, and also taking care of my inner-strength,” said Mzolo.
She said even though the organisation has been existing for over 25 years, she won’t dwell on what happened in those years but rather dwell on what happened since she joined the organisation three years ago.
“The organisation has increased its human capital by adding of 41 more employees, the Victim Empowerment Programme increased by 20 employees, while orphan and vulnerable children youth increased by 21 employees. There was also an increase in number of employees in Intimacy Partner Violence Programme,” said Mzolo.
She added that during her era as the executive director, the organisation has managed to buy four vehicles, bought a property of its own, revamp the reception area and also started the EMHTC Choir.
Since taking over from Antje Manfroni, Mzondo has taken the NGO to the greater heights, increasing the number of employees from 32 to 83.
