Christmas does not have an age limit

Hawks and TenderHeart Foundation bring smiles to elderly residents.

Santa received letters not just from children last year, but also from the residents of SAVF Die Anker Tehuis.

TenderHeart Foundation’s annual Christmas Cracker Project teamed up with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Gauteng, also known as the Hawks Gauteng, recently, to organise and hand out Christmas gifts to the residents of Die Anker, in Germiston South.

Ho, Ho, Ho, Santa comes early to Elsburg

The TenderHeart Foundation was founded five years ago by three sisters, Lornette Joseph, Coral Bowler and Mandy Whitehead.

They decided that Christmas should also be special for elderly members of the community, as well as the youth.

“Everybody talks about the youth and how children are the future, but I think that a lot of people forget where their past has come from,” said Joseph.

“We say thank you to our elderly for getting us to this point as without you we would not be here.”

The Hawks Gauteng sponsored the Christmas Cracker Project with toiletries for the Christmas gift bags which were filled with an array of goodies and handed out to the residents.

“Just like any other organisation in the country, we also have a social responsibility to give back to the community,” said Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu, communications officer for the Hawks Gauteng.

“We partnered with the Christmas Cracker Project to acknowledge our senior citizens for the festive season and to celebrate the Christmas spirit.

“We are going to continue to form this working relationship.

“We want to adopt school children in need and also have sustainable projects where the beneficiaries will gain a lot out of them.”

The Christmas Cracker Project bags came in green and red, red for women and green for men.

The bags included a face cloth, powder, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, aqueous cream, biscuits or soft sweets as a sweet treat and a small clothing item like a scarf, a pair of socks or gloves and also a little gift.

Brig Woolaganathan Govender, the provincial commander of Serious Organised Crime at the Hawks Gauteng, representing DPCI management, gave his thoughts as to why they got involved with the Christmas Cracker Project.

“We came here today to say thank you, to you.

“We consider you our past, our present and our future for there is no such thing as being old, because you are not old, you are seniors, and it is guaranteed that we are all going to get there,” said Govender.

Residents enjoyed lunch and were gifted with ice cream to enjoy for dessert.

It was then time for the Christmas gifts.

“From the Christmas Cracker Project and from my family to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas,” said Joseph.
