The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) held a prayer meeting for Vosloorus SAPS at the station’s Barracks Hall on January 23.
They prayed for the protection of the officers.
Nametso Mofokeng, media liaison officer from the church, said the purpose of the initiative, called Universal in the Police Force (UPF), is to encourage and support those in public service, acknowledging their work and praying for their protection.
She added that The UCKG has an extensive social responsibility programme to educate and empower people to transform their lives.
“This is one of those initiatives where people can draw spiritual support from prayer and teaching should they wish to attend the meeting,” said Mofokeng.

Church members and leaders as well as men in blue from Vosloorus SAPS, including the station commander, Brig Themba Denge, were present at the ceremony.
Congregants organised food and beverages for everyone who attended the ceremony.
“This work was launched in 2019 and now has been extended to police stations, fire departments and traffic departments, to mention a few,” says Mofokeng.
On whether the church has a plan of taking this initiative to schools to create awareness of drug abuse and to eliminate bullying, Mofokeng responded: “The Universal Church has ongoing programmes that reach young people. Recent campaigns, specifically for young people, include a back-to-school campaign to help people deal with challenges in their lives and find renewed purpose. Campaigns standing against all forms of abuse, including one called “Say no to bullying” are held frequently, as are regular programmes to help free people from addiction.
“One such event themed #TPA, which means Take the Pain Away, not your life, will be held on February 15 to address the issue of suicide, especially among the youth, and to extend hope to those who feel hopeless and consequently suicidal,” says Mofokeng.
Vosloorus SAPS commander Brig Themba Denge said as Vosloorus SAPS they are happy with the good initiative by UCKG.
“We as SAPS members needed the spiritual support so we can be energised to start our new year well. We can’t do our demanding work without God. This is the partnership we wish to sustain as safety ambassadors,” said Denge.
