Having some fun in the kitchen

Hirsch’s Meadowdale teaches children how to cook.

Want to know what to do with your children over weekends?

Pop along to the Hirsch’s Meadowdale branch where once a week public relations officer Chantelle du Plessis and Little Cooks Club take them on a fun food journey.

The team recently held a children’s cooking class open to all the children within the community, and the atmosphere in the shop was electrifying, with the children eager to get their hands dirty.

Showing off their creations at the Hirsch’s Meadowdale Little Cooks Club recently are (back) Aedin Bayer and Deyana Singaram. Front: Amy-Rose Mostert, Kian Chetty, Rixongile Makhubela and Trey Garakara.

They all had the opportunity to make their own sweet and sticky chicken drumsticks.

They started off by making a marinade by mixing garlic, ginger, chilli, honey and soy sauce.

They fried the chicken in the sauce, making sure each drumstick was evenly coated and cooked through.

“It is great to see the interest children have in food at such a young age.

“Their nutrition knowledge and health awareness was excellent,” said Chantelle.
